Ron Flannagan, Ph.D
Ron is a senior agricultural biotechnology executive with nearly 30 years of experience transforming scientific innovation into commercially successful crop protection products. Raised on a farm in northeast Iowa, he has dedicated his career to developing technologies that are scientifically rigorous, commercially viable, and focused on delivering real value for growers. His leadership experience spans North America, Brazil, and Latin America, providing deep insight into global product development, regional market needs, and the commercialization of agricultural innovations across diverse production systems.

Most recently, as Vice President of Research at GreenLight Biosciences, Ron led a multidisciplinary organization spanning RNA discovery, bioinformatics, machine learning, and mode-of-action research. Under his leadership, the team advanced Calanthaâ„¢, the world's first foliar-applied RNA biopesticide, while building a robust pipeline of next-generation insecticide, acaricide, fungicide, and herbicide technologies. He also secured non-dilutive funding to accelerate innovation, guided major organizational transitions, and built high-performing research teams that consistently delivered results.

Earlier in his career, Ron held leadership positions at Pioneer Hi-Bred, DuPont, Monsanto, and Bayer Crop Science, leading global programs across discovery, product development, technology, and commercial organizations. He played key roles in advancing industry-defining innovations, including SmartStax® PRO, the first commercial RNA-based transgenic trait, Xtend® dicamba-tolerant soybeans, and multiple transgenic insect control technologies. In addition, he led regional agronomy organizations supporting product launches, customer engagement, and commercial strategy throughout Brazil and Latin America, giving him firsthand experience navigating international markets, regulatory environments, and grower needs.

An author of numerous scientific publications and a named inventor on more than 25 patents, Ron is recognized for applying scientific rigor and hypothesis-driven decision-making to reduce technical risk throughout the product development lifecycle.
