Bridey Maxwell, Ph.D

Bridey is a seasoned strategic biotechnology leader with over two decades of experience driving innovation in crop protection, RNAi, and agricultural R&D. She specializes in translating complex science into commercial products while building high-performance, multidisciplinary teams.

 

Bridey possesses deep expertise in plant physiology and genetics, specifically the molecular mechanisms underlying crop traits. She excels at developing commercial-grade bioassays and has successfully built multiple laboratories and high-throughput assay platforms from the ground up, including custom image-based systems for crop and model plants.

 

At GreenLight Biosciences, as a founding platform member, she spearheaded the science strategy for RNAi-based crop protection. She defined initial product concepts, established team structures, and led the construction of the Plant Health Division’s laboratory infrastructure. Additionally, she created the company’s Technical Risk Assessment process, aligning commercial and discovery teams on milestones from proof-of-concept to commercialization.

 

Previously, Bridey spent nine years at Monsanto in the Yield and Traits program. As a Site Leadership Team Member, she fostered a culture of scientific integrity and agility while managing budgets and talent. She directed the development of a high-throughput bioassay for topical RNAi and managed key external collaborations. Her leadership as Trait Biology and Intrinsic Yield Lead drove novel breeding strategies, automated greenhouse systems, and robust testing paradigms for major products. Her innovations earned her the Monsanto Biotechnology Impact Award, along with recognition as a Monsanto Fellow and Technology Mentor.

 

A skilled grant strategist, Bridey has secured funding, including a USDA-NIFA SBIR grant and a 2022 Australian Research Council Grant for non-GM crop protection. Her team also advanced to the top 4% of the recent AgBio DARPA challenge. She is well-positioned to provide strategic guidance on R&D commercialization, platform development, and scientific leadership.
